We at Pension Freedom believe that our industry needs to be fixed. Everyone talks about how much money you need to retire and asks, “do you have enough?” At Pension Freedom we believe the more important question is “Are you managing your money in a way that allows you to live the best life possible?”
Let me ask you a question: “Does earning 1% less or more than the market impact how you live your life?” Of course not. Yet, the majority of our industry focuses on performance otherwise known as return on investment.
With our clients, we use a much more effective approach called Return on Life. The result of using a ROL-centered approach is that our clients are able to live the best lives possible given the money they have.
With ROL, you don’t give up the best of life or the best parts of yourself just to get money. The money is there to serve you, not vice versa. Instead of focusing on someone else’s definition of success, you will write your own. ROL puts quality before quantity by managing your assets in a way that improves your life and provides peace of mind and confidence.
How did I arrive at my perspectives on money?
We've found that each person has their own perspective on 8 key aspects of money. During this conversation, we will answer the question: "What are your perspectives on money and how did you arrive at them?"
It is important that we understand and appreciate how you think about money including how you got to where you currently are. Just as you can’t expect your doctor to diagnose what’s wrong with you without knowing your complete medical history.
Are you managing your money in a way that improves your life?
The ROL Index asks you to assess 10 aspects of your life that relate to whether or not you are making progress. We identify areas where you can use your money more effectively to make things better. And, importantly, celebrate the areas where you've made progress
Am I financially prepared for life's big transitions?
The financial planning industry currently focuses on encouraging you to accumulate money until you've reached "the big right number" necessary for retirement. At Pension Freedom, we believe it's more important to focus on the significant life transitions you see in your future.
Common transitions include paying for college, caring for an elderly parent, downsizing a home or transitioning to semi-retirement. These transitions will either add to or subtract from your wealth. Consequently, they will either add confidence or stress depending upon if you’ve planned for the transitions appropriately.
We will create a customized Financial Lifeline for you that will specify exactly when to begin addressing these important transitions. This will help us to create a wealth plan that builds wealth and protects it against future dangers.
Only after we’ve considered your Return on Life will we begin to crunch numbers and run scenarios to make your plan work.
